The Great Siege : A new Project
Skorba's second album is a narrative musical suite about the the siege of Malta in 1565. A time when Malta was under the charge of the Knights Hospitalier of St John. Malta was invaded by the Ottoman Turkish empire ruled by Sulyman the Magnificent. And the pirates known as the Corsairs controlled much of the Mediterranean.
So as you could imagine, a great many musical influences come to mind.
It's a big project, exploring many kinds of music from Maltese Ghana to 16th century renaissance music and Turkish folk and military music. Enlisting the talents of many fine musicians along the way, including Tunji Beier, Llew Kiek, and Linsey Pollak, this is sure to be a rich album quite different to the first one, but still maintaining something of our signature sound.
